Kadie Stonebraker

Kadie is a 4 yr. old girl who passed away from cancer August 13, 2011, just a few days after we started this sale to help her and her family. Please keep the prayers and support coming for the Stonebraker family.

Please read about Kadie as written by her mother Sarah dated August 2, 2011:

From Sarah Stonebraker’s Notes – Kadie’s Results: Quite awhile back, 7 or 8 years ago now, well before Jake and I had any babies of our own or knew what real life was all about, Jake met an old man. I can’t recall now where or how but that old man told Jake some pretty important words…he said “No matter what you’re going through, someone else has already been through it and they survived it. They made it through. Always remember that.”

Jake never saw that man again but he and I have both always carried those words of wisdom with us throughout life. Right now, we’re relying on those words heavily for strength and comfort. This old man was talking about losing a child. Unfortunately for Jake and I this has become our reality. We’re going to loose our sweet “Little Miss” and there isn’t a damn thing we can do to prevent it.

Her cancer is back and it’s back with a vengance. The tumors have grown so large in her abdomen that they’re pushing on her lungs and her breathing is labored and one lung is collapsed. She’s now having trouble peeing too. She’s having some pain but I think that’s coming from the bone marrow biopsies that were done yesterday. She eats some here and there and drinks pretty good still. Her energy level is getting lower and lower. I’m not sure how much longer she’ll be here with us but we’re on our way to Pittsburgh to find that out. Her doc in New York said we could put in a chest tube that would help for a little while but we have to talk to her docs here in Pittsburgh to see what they think too. They said we could give her a high dose of chemotherapy but her NYC doc wouldn’t do it up there because he doesn’t think she’d survive chemo at this point.

So Jake and I have decided to just bring her home and keep her comfortable. No more treatments. She’s been through enough. If Jake and I would do the chemo route it would be for selfish reasons. It wouldn’t benefit Kadie at all. She finally has hair and she damn-well deserves to keep it. She deserves to be somewhat happy. Although she’s not so happy as of lately. She’s pretty sick in fact. So we’re headed to Pittsburgh today to discuss her end of life care and to start her on hospice.

My heart aches for this little girl who is going to miss out on so much but at the same time she’s finally gonna be free. No more sickness, no more baldness, no more hospitals and doctors and no more owies. She’s gonna get to be a kid and she’ll be able to play with the angels now. But my heart still hurts for her and for her sisters. How am I going to tell Gracie? She’s about to loose her best friend. Her sister. At 5 years old. This is so unfair but this is the hand we were dealt and we’ll play those cards the best we know how. But it’s still a kick in the teeth. Plus I got to open a letter this morning addressed to Kadie that she’s enrolled in K-4. That just about broke me but I keep my “strong face” on for her.

I don’t want her to see sadness, only happy good things. She deserves that much. In fact, yesterday right after the doctor told us the results I, of course, was crying my eyes out. She looked right at me and said “Momma, when are you gonna show me that happy face?” 🙂 She’s too darn sweet. So for Kadie’s sake, let’s try our hardest and keep on a happy face when we’re near her. 🙂 Thank you all for praying for Kadie and our family, I’m asking you to pray she remains pain-free and this next phase of her life goes smoothly and there’s no fear for her. I don’t want her to be afraid. I really don’t. *sigh* Thanks for listening, sorry I don’t have better news.
