Sadly, Shannon Klein passed away on Dec. 23, 2011 please keep her family in your prayers.
Shannon Grove Klein is a 35 year old wife to Steve and mother to 4 year old twins Katelyn and Stevie and 18 month old Kimberly. They live in Portage, PA. Shannon has a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree from Saint Francis University.
In 2010 Shannon developed a blood clot and then, 5 months later, another blood clot was found. Upon examination, the diagnosis of stage IIIC ovarian cancer was confirmed. At that time, her children were only three years old and five months old.
Shannon underwent a hysterectomy in October 2010 and 4 large tumors were also removed. She then began chemotherapy. Unfortunately Shannon had to spend an extra month in a Pittsburgh hospital due to complications from her surgery.
A little while later Shannon learned that the cancer had spread to her liver. She has tried four different chemo treatments two and four weeks apart. She is now doing chemo every two weeks. In June 2011 Shannon suffered a stroke which left her partially paralyzed on her left side. She has regained some function but not all.
Recently, in October of 2011, a scan showed 2 brain tumors. Shannon immediately started radiation.
Shannon has not been able to work at Saint Francis University since her diagnosis. She is in and out of the hospital a lot and unable to be with her children. Shannon says that this is the hardest part. Because Kimberly is only 18 months old and Shannon has spent over six months in the hospital, she has missed most of her baby’s life. But Shannon is quick to say that Kimberly is the “happiest baby in the world” and her twins absolutely love Pre-K!
